The Rub x Okayplayer – 2016 New Year’s Eve Mix

The Rub x Okayplayer – 2016 New Year’s Eve Mix

Another year, another hardcore mix full of dope tunes from the good folks, DJ Ayres and DJ Eleven. Yes, if you haven’t been following OKP’s tradition of dropping a New Year’s Eve mix with a party to ring it all in then stop sleeping! Again, we’re lacing you with the illest sonic offerings from the year’s best and brightest from Anderson .Paak to Chance The Rapper to Travis Scott and more!

2016 was a major, major earthquake full of music that opened one’s mind, one’s heart and possibly changed the game for the next 20 years. Concentrating all of those energies into an hour-plus worth of heat-rock, DJ Ayres and DJ Eleven make this year’s The Rub tape a collector’s item in-and-of itself. If you’re ready for another toe-tapping collection of get-dumb, turn-up, hit-dem-folks music — don’t let me keep talking, hit play and enjoy the sounds now!

NEW JUELZ SANTANA SONG, “SANTANA BANDANA”

“Santana Bandana” is vintage Juelz, and when you hear his “Santana back, he got the bandana back” refrain, you’re tempted to believe him more than you’ve believed him in recent years. The shrill synths are reminiscent of his and Dipset’s work with Heatmakerz, Rsonist and Ty Fyffe, and he’s back toying with suffixes from the onset (“It’s a wrap, it’s a wrizzy). Sure, it isn’t “Oh Yes” or “Mic Check,” but it’s a damn good start from a guy that, by all indications, can still get it done.

Listen to Desiigner and Kanye West on Timmy Turner Remix

Ever since he signed to the G.O.O.D. Music imprint earlier this year, Desiigner’s budding relationship with Kanye West has continued to blossom into a full garden of delights. Desiigner’s now instantly-recognizable warble was a standout moment on Kanye’s The Life of Pablo track “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. II,” and it of course grew into the mammoth single “Panda.” ‘Ye was good enough to appear in the video for that single, and now he has spread more of his Yeezy magic all over Desiigner’s latest chart-topper “Tiimmy Turner” with this fire new remix that emerged last night.

Debuting on radio station Hot 97, the remix is considerably shorter than the original track, but what it lacks in runtime it makes up for in classically Kanye lyrics. He dominates the first half of the remix with his verse, which features his usual comparisons to some of America’s greats: “I’m the new Steve, mixed with Ali, ‘bout to get freed I’m the new Walt.” ‘Ye also puts his spin on the track’s production, offering an even more sinister version than heard previously. Though Desiigner dropped a lyric video last month for the song, no official music video has been released. So here’s hoping Kanye pops up there too.

Watch DJ Khaled and Nas Team Up for ‘Done’

DJ Khaled - Nas Album Done ft. Nas

Good news: Nas and DJ Khaled weren’t just trolling us with “Nas Album Done,” the standout collab from Khaled’s Major Key album. Teasing us, sure. But not trolling.

It turns out Nas’s next album is, in fact, finished: “All we’re doing now is plotting when we’re dropping,” he told Complex, adding that he has a title and timetable, but wasn’t going to let us in on those quite yet.

As for how the hype-building song itself came about — that was largely the work of the album’s architect, DJ Khaled, despite the fact that it plays like a solo Esco track.
