1997 Acura Integra Type-R Sells for $63,800

Japanese motor enthusiasts have just witnessed new heights at Barrett-Jackson‘s most recent auction. While it is no surprise that German and Italian classic automobiles/exotics have been on the rise, no one would have ever expected the Acura (It’s Honda-badged for those outside of North America) Integra DC2 to fetch close to $65,000 USD. Unlike the skyrocketing prices of classic JDM models, largely due to strict import laws, this 1997 Integra Type R is ready to drive.

What makes this car so rare is that only 320 units from 1997 were ever shipped for the U.S. market. Powered by Honda’s famous B18C engine, the Integra Type R set the benchmark for naturally aspirated engines — churning out 108 horse power per-liter. With only 1,200-miles on the dash, this completely-stock Championship White DC2 is the embodiment of Honda’s early-day racing spirt, shared with other iconic chassis like the EK9 and AP1.

This particular 1997 model year car was a one-owner machine with less than 2,000 actual miles on the odometer. Painted in white with a flawlessly clean cloth interior, it’s as close to factory condition as you’re likely to find. That can be seen as an added plus to the Type R’s historical significance and well-regarded status within the car community which has earned it utmost praise, even from the stiffest rear-wheel-drive faithfuls.

The Integra’s VTEC-equipped 1.8-liter engine, commonly known in the Honda/Acura community as a B18, produced 200 horsepower from the factory, a massive number at the time for such a small displacement powerplant. It’s matched with a five-speed, close-ratio manual gearbox which directs power to the front wheels via a limited slip differential.

Lengthy documentation on the car was included in the sale, all packaged together nicely in a leather-bound Acura booklet along with the original owners’ manuals. The exceptional state of what has become an undeniable classic apparently ticked all of the boxes for the lucky collector as it is now on it’s way to just its second home in 21 years.

This will provoke a response from the everyday car crowd, so to get the conversation started, drop a line below and cast your vote: worth the cash or where’s this guy’s stash?

MERCEDES-BENZ FUTURE BUS

When you think of your ordinary city bus, the last thing you think of is sexy. Well, this isn’t your ordinary bus. Leave it to Mercedes Benz to completely flip the script on the bus industry and bring the world ‘Future Bus’: a modern, sleek, safe, efficient, and beautifully designed piece of modern transportation.

But of course, this type of efficiency won’t be seen in the States any time soon. Future Bus will make its first appearance in the Netherlands, a common jump-off point for new technology that isn’t strapped by, um, big business and politics.

2017 FORD GT ’66 HERITAGE EDITION

Ford came to this year’s Le Mans with some serious ammunition in the form of this tribute to a previous award-winning model. The 2017 GT ’66 Heritage Edition salutes the historic 1966 GT40 Mark II, driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. It was an historic time for Ford, whose other GT40s managed to follow suit in 2nd and 3rd place.

To celebrate, Ford made sure to give this ride the proper paint job. In this case, that happened to be their Shadow Black paint, available in a matte or glossy finish, complemented by silver stripes and exposed carbon fiber. It rides on 20-inch forged aluminum wheels featuring a gold satin finish and ebony leather covers the carbon fiber seats in the interior. Ford plans on releasing this model for 2017 only. And with a limited quantity set to roll out, you’d better be quick to reserve one of these beauties soon.

PAUL NEWMAN’S 1979 PORSCHE 935 LE MANS RACER

Step right up and start your bidding! Up for auction is one legendary Porsche: PAUL NEWMAN’S 1979 PORSCHE 935 LE MANS RACER.

The Porsche 935, a car with a dominating legacy of over 150 worldwide race wins through 1984, is one of the most important models in Porsche history. The car presented here, chassis 009 0030, offered legendary actor and racer Paul Newman his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut on June 10, 1979, alongside co-drivers Dick Barbour (team owner) and Rolf Stommelen. The Dick Barbour team did not disappoint with a strong second-place finish overall in front of the largest crowd in Le Mans’ history to date drawn by the 54-year-old Newman. During the 1980 campaign, the car was sponsored by Apple Computers and remains the only racecar the tech company has ever supported. The Porsche 935 continued its racing success winning first overall at the 1981 24 Hours of Daytona with drivers Bobby Rahal, Brian Redman and Bob Garretson, as well as first overall at the 1983 12 Hours of Sebring with drivers Wayne Baker, Jim Mullen and Kees Nierop. This car was restored in 2006 by Porsche specialist Paul Willison to its 1979 Le Mans “Hawaiian Tropic” livery and went on to win Best in Class at the 2007 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Gooding & Company is proud to present this historic car, which is a perfect candidate for the Porsche Rennsport Reunion and other events.

DUCATI 1299 PANIGALE S ANNIVERSARIO EDITION

Have a look at the new DUCATI 1299 PANIGALE S ANNIVERSARIO EDITION

Complementing and enhancing the Panigale’s award-winning design, the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario features special graphics to commemorate 90 years of Ducati passion and performance. Dynamic and distinctly racing-inspired, the stunning graphics include also special gold-coloured Marchesini forged aluminium wheels.

The new Superquadro’s bore/stroke ratio of 1.91:1 sets an extreme example of the power-maximizing “oversquare” architecture used in the world’s most advanced racing engines. A short-stroke crankshaft and enormous pistons combined with large Desmodromically-actuated valves allow the Superquadro to breathe freely at high rpm, while a 1285cc combustion chamber ensures the ample torque that has made so many enthusiasts fall in love with Ducati’s signature L-twin power.

2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport

Via/High Consumption

Here’s a sneak peak at the new 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport. And by the looks of things, this is their sleekest model yet. On the exterior, small adjustments were made to the outward appearance of the Discovery. However, since adding that extra style and grace is always a must for any luxury SUV owner, interested buyers should check out the Dynamic Design Package for the HSE and HSE LUX trims.

Included in these packages are subtle adjustments to the front and rear bumpers, integrated tailpipes in the rear, glossed black 20-inch wheels and black exterior trim all around. The interior receives a nice dose of contrasted stitching and metal pedal covers for a more racing-centric vibe. All versions though come equipped with Land Rover’s new InControl Touch Pro program that uses a 10.2-inch widescreen display for the vehicles infotainment system. It now boasts optional safety aids such as Driver Condition Monitor the check up on tired drivers. Also, for those with a lead foot, Land Rover offers an Intelligent Speed Limiter that uses existing traffic sign recognition to keep your speed in check, even slowing the vehicle down if the driver allows. Lane Keep Assist is also integrated into the program. Models go on sale in August of this year, with a surprisingly affordable window sticker price of $38,690.

2017 Nissan GT-R: More of Everything We Love

More Speed, Power, Luxury, and Style in the 2017 Nissan GT-R

via Jalopnik.com: You may find this hard to believe, but the 2017 model year will mark the 10th year of production for the Nissan GT-R. It’s been around a whole decade now, and it’s still one of the cars you’d least want to drag race. While it’s getting toward the end of its run, Nissan’s keeping it fresh the usual way: more power, nicer interior, new nose.

Nissan said the updated GT-R is now rated at 565 horsepower, an increase of 20 HP over last year’s model. New seats, Nappa leather, a better nav and infotainment system, and more apps (apps!) make it a friendly, more daily-drivable beast than it was.

There’s also a new 8-inch capacitive touch panel monitor instead of the old 7-inch unit, paddle shifters on the steering wheel now, way fewer buttons than before, and a new titanium exhaust.

Sounds like these tweaks make the GT-R a bit more of a grand tourer than it’s been, and at least somewhat more worthy of its $100,000 starting price tag. Is it enough to keep the GT-R relevant until it becomes a world-destroying hybrid spaceship with its next iteration.
